"Climate Change Fighting and Private Sector" Conference

As one of the most serious global threats of the 21st century, climate change needs to be addressed with sustainable development vision and a global approach. Rönesans Holding Sustainability Department represented our company in "Climate Change Fighting and Private Sector" Conference organized by TÜSİAD, Regional Environment Center (REC Turkey), Global Compact Turkey ve Business World and Sustainable Development Association Turkey.

Within the scope of the event, the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Treaty importance for the business world, results of Paris Treaty and COP22 in terms of Turkey , the policy instruments that will contribute to the fight against climate change and impacts on Turkey were discussed.

17 Sustainable Development Goals which include climate change accomplishment was adopted by United Nations (UN). It was emphasized that it is possible with the participation of all the world and community actors to realize these global goals by TUSIAD Board Member Mr. Metin Akman. This subject was emphasized by Assistant Resident Representative at UNDP Turkey Mr. Atila Uras, too.

Paris Treaty was signed on December 2015 which foreseed concrete step in greenhouse gas emission reduction. Procedures after that treaty , manner of Turkey, reflections of this manner on public and privacy sector was explained by Chief Negotiator Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Binpınar. It was stated that Turkey is committed to a 21% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030, but it may be possible with the funds to be provided.

REC Turkey Manager Mr. Rıfat Ünal Sayman said that studies on carbon emissions were carried out by 69% of companies in Turkey and emphasized that these activities with increasing consciousness, are giving credibility to the private sector and public institutions.
